Platform difference
Koala is mobile-only. Kadena Wallet is desktop-only in v1. The two products cover non-overlapping platforms. For users who want both, the standard pattern is to import the same recovery phrase into Kadena Wallet on desktop and Koala on mobile.
Where Koala excels
Mobile UX. Koala has a long-standing reputation for clean mobile user experience.
Kadena Names integration. Koala supports Kadena Names natively.
KadenaKeys credit. The Koala team built the KadenaKeys derivation tool, the open-source library that allows Kadena Wallet (and other wallets) to derive Chainweaver-format and Koala-format private keys. We acknowledge this meaningful contribution openly.
Where Kadena Wallet excels
Native desktop application. No browser dependency, designed for desktop-class workflows.
Hardware wallet pairing. Kadena Wallet supports Ledger Nano S Plus and Nano X via WebHID; Koala does not currently support hardware wallets.
Mining-payout UX. Built around the use case of ASIC miners receiving regular payouts.
Multi-format seed import. BIP39, Koala 24-word, and Chainweaver formats without manual conversion.
Migration between them
Kadena Wallet supports the Koala 24-word format directly via the import flow. Export the 24 words from Koala, install Kadena Wallet, choose "Import existing wallet," select the Koala format option, and enter the words.
